Location & Access
Scott County is located 25 miles southwest of Minneapolis, just south of Bloomington and Eden Prairie. The Minnesota River defines its northwestern border, with Highway 169 generally following the river and providing access to agricultural regions to the south and west. Interstate 35W parallels its eastern border, connecting the county to the urban core and the rest of the state.
Scott County is a mix of rural and suburban areas and covers 365 square miles. With the completion of Highway 169 bridge over the Minnesota River, it has become a convenient location for business expansion. It offers a large supply of industrial land available for development.

Major Industries & Employers
Scott County’s economy is strengthened by its diversity. Population growth drives demand for services. Growth creates stronger linkages to the region and state. Two rapidly-growing industry sectors – services and construction – have replaced agriculture as the dominant economic force.
The county boasts a strong commercial and industrial base as well as a concentration of entertainment attractions. Attractions include Canterbury Park race track, Murphy's Landing living history museum, Elko Speedway, Mystic Lake Casino, the Renaissance Festival, and ValleyFair Amusement Park. Other major employers include ADC Telecommunications, Seagate Technologies and Fabcon.

Population & Workforce
Scott County is the fastest growing county in Minnesota, having grown by 45.2% since 2000, according to the recent Census. Scott County is also one of the fastest growing counties in America, easily surpassing the 10-year average growth rate of 7.7%. Scott County’s record-setting growth is expected to continue. The near-term outlook predicts another 10.7% population jump by 2015 and even greater workforce expansion, according to MSP Prospector.
Residents work throughout the Metro MSP region, with the largest number employed in Hennepin and Scott Counties.

Transportation
Interstate I-35 and four-lane Highway 169 are major transportation corridors for Minnesota and beyond. The county is also served by four other highways. Blue Xpress provides commuters service between Scott County and downtown Minneapolis, expanding the employment options for southwest metro residents.
Also located in the south metro, MSP International Airport is easily accessible via Interstate 494 from Interstate 35 or US Highway 169. Flying Cloud regional airport is minutes away.
