Location & Access
Located in southern Hennepin County, the city is bound by Interstate 494 to the north, Highway 169 to the west and the Minnesota River to the south and east. Interstate 35W connects Bloomington to downtown Minneapolis and Saint Paul, both minutes away. The Minneapolis/Saint Paul International Airport is directly north of the city. Light rail transit connects Bloomington to the airport and downtown Minneapolis.

Major Industries & Employers
Bloomington is home to a diverse and growing business base – drawn by its central metro location, proximity to the airport, and progressive business attitude. More than 20,000 people are employed in hospitality (retail, entertainment, hotels and restaurants), the city’s main industry. Other major industries include health maintenance and computer manufacturing.
Major employers include Seagate Technology, Express Scripts, Health Partners, Donaldson Companies, Toro, Thermo King/Ingersoll Rand and Holiday Companies.

Quality of Life
Aptly dubbed “The City of Hospitality,” Bloomington is home to Mall of America – the largest shopping and entertainment complex in the United States and the top-drawing tourism attraction in Minnesota. With more than 7,400 hotel/motel rooms and dozens of top-rated entertainment facilities, the city has become a national destination for business meetings and conventions.
One-third of Bloomington (8,000 acres) is designated as park and recreation space. Residents have access to three golf courses, 108 tennis courts, a downhill ski area, a 50-acre softball field and 123 parks. Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge (12-square miles) is one of only four urban wildlife refuges in the country. Normandale Japanese Gardens is known throughout the Midwest.
The city has a council-manager form of government with full-time staff of more than 500. Fiscally, it maintains the highest triple-A bond ratings from three ratings agencies: Standard & Poor's, Moody's and Fitch.
